Jusqu’à la fin (Até o Fim)

from Everyday a Little Love by Amália Baraona

about

"Jusqu'à la Fin" (Até o Fim), a composition by Marcos Valle and Carlos Lyra is the 4th track of the album "Everyday a Little Love" with Petar Ćulibrk.

- I heard the original Brazilian version of this song for the 1st time in a recording of Emilio Santiago (2007, album “De um jeito diferente"), and absolutely fell in love with it. When I started developing the repertoire for my album, this song was on top of the list and to my surprise I found a recording by Carlos Lyra himself (2019, album “Além da Bossa”) on which he sings the 2nd part of the song in French!! So, I wrote to him asking about it and was honoured to receive the scores and the complete lyrics in French from him, as well as the authorisation to do the 1st recording of the complete French version. The lyrics basically describe that moment when you realise that even if your companion loves you, he is drifting away into his own world leaving you behind, and love remains alive only in your heart… You realise that with him that’s how it will be, and the saddest thing is knowing that it would be worth it, but he will not go until the end. It felt like the lyrics were telling my own story..' -says Amalia.

Carlos Lyra-composer, guitarist, singer-is one of the most important artists of the Bossa Nova. Lyra and Tom Jobim were the first two music composers, together with lyricists Vinícius de Moraes and Ronaldo Bôscoli, to be recorded by João Gilberto on his 1st LP entitled Chega de Saudade (1959), which is considered to be the birth of the Bossa Nova. Carlos Lyra is now 89, and continues playing and composing. Music keeps you young!

lyrics

Quand puis tout à coup, tu me délaisses
Tu vas avant marchant sans cesse
Tu me laisses tellement triste
